For those who don't know I work for a group home. Recently we have been deeling with boys and girls who are "Desperatly In Love!!"
The acts of love through time have been extreme. Passionate. Expressed in forms of brilliant writing, such a E.E. Cummings, Jane Austin, or the conflicting pains of Shakespeare. Or the feats displayed publicly, out of desperation, in order for the WORLD to see the depth of their affection.
But…in this generation…what does that passionate expression look like?? Certainly not carvings/writings in one’s arm
Is it the extreme denial of structure, rules, or even reality…Then making some dangerous statement as evidence of the depth of that passion?
When I look at the kids I work with I feel bad for them, yes of course because of the lives that they have had afflicted on them, but more so because I struggle to believe that they will be capable of experiencing the simple parts of love. The joy and peace that can come from pure, natural love.
